Microchipping in Frisco

Each year, millions of companion animals go missing. And unfortunately, many of them never find their way back home.

Only about 22% of dogs who enter animal shelters are reunited with their owners, while this is true for less than 2% of cats.

Fortunately, there is something you can do to increase your chances of being reunited with your pet if they ever escape: Having them microchipped.

At easyvet Frisco, we offer microchipping in Frisco and strongly recommend this simple procedure for most of our patients. Keep reading to learn more!

How Microchipping Works

The microchips used in veterinary medicine are roughly the size of a grain of rice and do not have any tracking or information storage capabilities. Instead, each chip has a unique serial number that is linked to an online account. When you register your pet’s chip, you provide you contact information to make reuniting with your pet easier if you ever get separated.

The chip is inserted using a syringe, takes just a few seconds, and feels like getting a shot. Your pet will feel a poke, but they won’t experience any serious discomfort when the chip is inserted beneath their skin.

If your pet ever gets lost and ends up in a shelter or vet’s office, they’ll be scanned for a microchip. As long as you keep your contact information up-to-date, someone will then contact you to make arrangements to reunite with your four-legged friend.
